Arkham Horror - INVOCATION 2017 EVENT

Event Date: January 27th 2018

Event Time: 13-18H
Event Venue: Boardgamegeneral - Liebiglaan 84 - 2900 Schoten

ATTENTION: this is a REGISTRATION for an event. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS! We will NOT ship this item to you (select pickup in store as shipping method if you are only purchasing this item).

What do you get? You get the Exlusive Event Playmat, an alt-art Card of Daisy Walker and the corresponding Investigator token. And ofcourse the event itself. Event rewards will be handed at the end of the event to players who participated.

What Is the Invocation?

The Invocation is a unique opportunity for you to head to your favorite local retailer, join forces with other fans of Arkham Horror: The Card Game, and revel in the game's pulp action and eerie, Lovecraftian mysteries.

At your Invocation Event, you might find other players waiting to tackle the challenges of a standalone scenario like Curse of the Rougarou or Carnevale of Horrors. Or, your Invocation Event might serve as the first in a series of weekly game nights, over the course of which you and your fellow investigators might try to solve the mysteries of the Night of the Zealot or The Dunwich Legacy.

Either way, you'll find your Invocation Event supported by an Invocation Kit that includes custom playmats and alternate art investigator cards for participants.

  • The alternate art investigator and mini cards for Daisy Walker (Core Set, 2) prepare you for the action to come. No longer is she closed up around the rare tome that she clutches close to her chest. Rather, we find her browsing a bookshelf by candlelight, presumably without the owner's knowledge.
  • And if Daisy's new card art speaks to her courage and resolve, the Invocation playmat whispers—or mutters, or howls—of the terrors that await you. Do you really want to enter that abandoned house? Do you really think your shotgun will protect you?

Lord of the Rings - Assualt on Dol Guldur EVENT

Event Date: January 13th 2018

Event Time: 13-18H
Event Venue: Boardgamegeneral - Liebiglaan 84 - 2900 Schoten

ATTENTION: this is a REGISTRATION for an event. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS! We will NOT ship this item to you (select pickup in store as shipping method if you are only purchasing this item).

What do you get: At the end of the event, prizes will be awarded to all attending players. Each player is guaranteed a spectacular EXCLusIVE Lord of the Rings Play Mat and either an Alt Art Galadiel card or an Attack on Dol Guldur scenario deck.

In Assault on Dol Guldur, players join the host of Lórien in a direct attack against Sauron’s Mirkwood stronghold taken straight from the appendix for The Return of the King. This unique scenario can be played by 1-4 players in Standard Game Mode or 3-12 players in Epic Multiplayer Mode. Only one copy of Assault on Dol Guldur is required to play Standard Game Mode, while three copies are required for Epic Multiplayer Mode. The scenario includes two double-sided setup cards, one for each mode, that players use to play the game in the desired fashion.

In Epic Multiplayer Mode, a group of 3-12 players are divided into three teams, and each team has its own encounter deck, quest deck, and staging area. Each team begins the game at their own stage one, but when everyone advances to stage three of Assault on Dol Guldur, they will find four different stage threes to choose from. Each one represents a different part of the siege, and only the team at that stage can make progress on it. In this way, each team is dependent on the others to do their part in order to win the battle and defeat the scenario.

Even though all three stages are interconnected, each one counts as its own game. So a card ability at one stage cannot affect the game state at another stage, unless it specifically says it does. Because each stage is its own game, two players at different stages can use the same unique card. That means players only need to coordinate their heroes with the other players on their team, not the entire group.

Of course there’s more to it than that: Each stage comes with its own risks and rewards, making the decision of which stage three each team chooses to quest at a compelling and important choice. To add to the richness of that choice, each stage three has a corresponding Dol Guldur location and Lieutenant enemy. Each Dol Guldur location cannot be explored unless the players are at the matching stage, and each Lieutenant enemy brings a danger of its own.

The battle for Stalingrad saw terrible fighting that went street by street, building by building, and room by room. Every rooftop was a firing position. Every sewer was an attack route. The Germans would call it the "Rat War." Both sides pumped artillery, bombs, rockets, and men into the city, and the burning rubble could be seen from 30 miles (50km) away by air, like something out of Dante's Inferno. It became a "test of wills," between Stalin and Hitler... and the troops paid a terrible price, as Stalingrad was the bloodiest campaign in World War 2.

With so much drama involved, the Stalingrad campaign has prompted many boardgame designs.

But none like this.

The first thing you notice is the map.

Our artists started with actual Luftwaffe recon photos, taken of the city and surrounding area, just before the battle began. Things are as "real" and historically accurate as they can get.

Actual Luftwaffe recon photos were "assembled"...
Actual Luftwaffe recon photos were "assembled"...

But black and white photos from 1942 can only show so much. Back then staff officers used magnifiers and lots of experience to "interpret" what the photos could tell them. We used artists, computers, and a meticulous attention to detail to connect, colorize, and enhance the maps, so that they "speak" to gamers with a clear voice. It's the most authentic, precise map of Stalingrad ever presented. Some tell us, "It's beautiful."

Then colorized and enhanced, for visual appeal and game information.

There is more information about the map (actually, "maps") down below.

Oh yeah-- the map includes a game! In fact, you might say it includes several levels of game.

Many games start with a two-player version, add extra players, and tack on a solitaire version as an after-thought. Stalingrad: Inferno on the Volga began life as a solo game, then added modules for live play. Our Soviet Artificial Intelligence (AI) will give you challenges from turn to turn. This is not an easy game, and, since much depends on what cards are drawn and when, no two games will ever be the same.

And, since you can finish a Solo game in 40-60 minutes, you'll be able to "try again" and see how the story unfolds the next time.

"Inferno" also lets you play a "cooperative" game, with two live players against the Soviet AI, if you'd like to bring a friend along. Or, when face to face competition suits you, "Inferno" lets one or TWO Germans face a Soviet player. Four modes of play-- each one challenging and exciting. Plus, three different levels of complexity, so you can start fast with the Basic game, and add more historical details and commander challenges as you wish.

This is a kickstarter pledge. It will be available once the Kickstarter is delivered (estimated August 2018.
